Where did all the good leads go?

Hi Reader, Hannah here :)

A quick story on how I got my first good client... now, when I say good, I mean they didn't bat an eyelid at my pricing; they paid on time every time, trusted me, respected me, and, in turn, I did great work with them. 🙌

I found her in a Facebook group. She had posted asking for help with a task I happened to know inside out; I replied thoughtfully. She clicked my name, poked around, saw that my messaging was consistent, saw that I worked with people just like her, saw an easy way to book a call with me, and did just that.

That was it. That was the whole strategy. And this still works today.

(psst: for it to work, your presence, profiles, and niche need to be crystal clear and optimized!)

After this, I kept going back, showing up, answering questions, being useful, showcasing my expertise, and letting people find me. I spent time in the groups where my ideal clients were, and that cycle gave me some of my best, longest-running clients.

The thing about Facebook groups in their prime was the energy. You'd open one up, and it was alive with people asking and answering, actual conversations happening in real time. The barrier to being seen was low if you were willing to be present. You didn't need a huge following or a polished brand. You just needed something useful to say and the consistency to keep saying it.

That energy is still there, but it has spread thinner somewhat; groups are still very much relevant and can be helpful, yet these kinds of conversations are ALSO happening elsewhere. The principle hasn't changed...it is alive and well...

On Threads!

The one thing worth knowing about how leads actually form:

Before any client hires you, they have to trust you, and trust rarely comes from a single post or just a perfectly optimized profile. It comes from repeated exposure over time. They see you answer a question well. They see you know what you're talking about. Then again. They notice you have a point of view. They start to feel like they know how you think. Then they reach out.

This is why platforms with quick conversation and discoverability are so powerful for VAs and freelancers.

You aren't selling; instead, you're accumulating small deposits of trust in plain sight.

Threads right now has the same feel FB groups have had: it brings curiosity, conversation, low noise, and high engagement that feels earnest. It's brimming with opportunity and an air of positivity and respect that we don't find on many social media sites these days. And because it's still relatively early, the organic reach potential is huge in a way it won't always be. So now might be the absolute best time to figure out how things work over there and how to tap into a very abundant source of clients.

I've had multiple client coaching calls lately, and with each one, I've pointed them to Threads and given them advice on how best to use the platform. Each has had an almost immediate result from doing so. 🥳

Safe to say, it is THE hopping place to be atm.

Which is why I'm so excited about this month's expert session; this month's expert is someone who knows Threads like the back of her hand, and the person I turn to to learn from myself👇

This month's guest: Taylor Lane, Threads Marketing Strategist

Taylor has built her business almost entirely on Threads and now runs a full Threads Marketing Agency. She quit teaching, moved abroad, and figured out exactly how to generate 3 to 5 hot leads per day on the platform through posting, engaging, and showing up in the right way. She's also a long-term trusted collaborator here at DNK, known for her no-nonsense, actionable, and genuinely results-oriented guidance.

On June 23rd, she's walking us through her exact strategy live, the content that builds trust fast, the engagement approach that gets new eyes on your work, and how to make inbound leads come to you.

It's just $37 for the live session and full replay - and the investment pays for itself the moment you land one aligned client 🪄

Come with questions. Leave with a plan.

Hi there! Hannah here 👋 For many years, I could not place why I never fit into traditional workplaces. I had my guesses, yet not once was the reason that I’m lazy, disorganized, or rebellious. So what was it? First, I want to share that I’m not alone in this, and neither are you. Research backs it up. Across thousands of studies, the same patterns keep appearing: people struggle in traditional workplaces for surprisingly consistent reasons: Neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, dyslexia): an...

Hey hey! Hannah here :) I am harping on about Threads so much lately, but for very good reason. I’ve been watching our community experiment with it over the past few months, and something really interesting is happening. The people who are trying the least to go viral are often the ones landing clients (and often going pretty viral too haha). Here’s what I mean. Mistake #1: Treating Threads like Instagram You don’t need a polished graphic. You don’t need a carousel. You don’t even need a...

Hey Reader, Hannah here :) I've been in the VA and freelancing space long enough to watch the landscape shift in real time. And one pattern I see over and over again is that the people struggling to find clients are almost always looking in the wrong places... ...or in the right places, in the wrong way. I just published a full blog post on this, 10 Places to Find High-Paying Freelance Work in 2026, and I want to share a few highlights here with you. Here's what's working right now: LinkedIn:...
